Our client is looking for a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at a beautiful four-star hotel in Newquay, Cornwall.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a chef who loves fresh food, thrives in a busy kitchen and enjoys leading a team to deliver exceptional dishes. Working alongside the Head Chef, you’ll play a key role in running the kitchen, maintaining high standards and creating memorable dining experiences for hotel guests.

As Sous Chef, you’ll support the Head Chef in delivering an efficient, organised and high-performing kitchen operation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Taking charge of the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.

• Leading, motivating and supporting the kitchen team during service.

• Maintaining consistently high standards of food quality, flavour and presentation.

• Training and developing junior chefs.

• Assisting with menu planning, dish development and menu costing.

• Managing food purchasing and helping control kitchen costs.

• Monitoring stock and minimising food waste.

• Ensuring food safety, hygiene, labelling and temperature controls are followed.

• Maintaining kitchen equipment and arranging repairs when needed.

• Supporting staff appraisals and ongoing team development.

• Ensuring every service runs smoothly and guests receive an excellent dining experience.

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience in a professional kitchen, preferably at Sous Chef or senior chef level.

• Strong leadership skills and the confidence to take charge when required.

• A genuine passion for cooking and delivering consistently high standards.

• Excellent organisation and attention to detail.

• Knowledge of food hygiene, safety procedures and kitchen compliance.

• An understanding of stock control, purchasing and food cost management.

• The ability to work well under pressure and lead by example.

• A positive attitude, strong work ethic and a team-focused approach.
