Commercial Food & Safety Officer
Grade: Practitioner Grade 4
Pay: £55 per hour (paid weekly)
Contract Type: Contract - Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm

The Commercial Food & Safety Team safeguards public health and supports businesses in maintaining high standards of food hygiene and safety through effective guidance, training, and enforcement.
About the Role:
As a Commercial Food & Safety Officer, you will oversee compliance with legislation, lead and mentor colleagues, and ensure high-quality, customer-focused service delivery. You’ll process food and safety interventions, handle technical and enforcement work, and collaborate with key partners such as the HSE, UKHSA, and FSA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with food and health & safety legislation and best practice.
- Coach and develop colleagues and partners to build confidence and competence.
- Manage inspections, complaints, enforcement, and export certification.
- Provide expert advice and lead projects improving service delivery.
- Promote best practice and deliver educational and compliance initiatives.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
- Competence to undertake food safety interventions under the Food Law Code of Practice and/or act as an inspector under the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
- Strong knowledge of legislation, enforcement, and food hygiene standards.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and mentoring skills.
